What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour
Your two-hour visit is designed to be a relaxed, hands-on introduction to the rhythms of a working orchard in early autumn. The tour begins with a warm welcome from our farm team, who will guide you through the morning's activities and answer any questions you may have about the farm's history, our growing practices, or the varieties of apples you'll see ripening in the orchard. From there, you'll move as a group to our cider pressing area, where you'll watch a traditional apple press in action and learn how fresh cider is made from whole apples—no additives, no shortcuts, just fruit and a little bit of elbow grease.
After the pressing demonstration, we'll take a short walk through the orchard rows. This is a chance to see the trees up close, learn how we care for them throughout the year, and understand what makes a good apple for eating versus pressing or baking. The walk is gentle and suitable for all ages, though we recommend comfortable closed-toe shoes and a light layer, as mornings can be cool even in September. The tour concludes back at the picnic area, where you're welcome to relax, enjoy the farm atmosphere, and purchase additional refreshments or U-pick bags if you'd like to extend your visit.
Please note that while apple picking is not included in your tour ticket, it is available for purchase on site. A half peck bag is $20, and you can pay with cash or credit card at the farm store. If you know you'll want to pick apples, we suggest budgeting a little extra time after the tour, as the orchard rows are open for U-pick during daylight hours on tour days.

Planning Your Visit: Parking, Check-in, and What to Bring
To make your morning as smooth as possible, we ask that you arrive at the farm at least 15 minutes before your reservation time. Parking is free and located in the main lot near the farm store. After parking, please walk to the check-in table near the entrance, where a staff member will verify your order number from your Ecwid confirmation email. You do not need a printed ticket—simply have the email open on your phone or bring a written note with your order number. Check-in closes 10 minutes before the tour begins, so please plan accordingly.
We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat if the forecast calls for sun. The tour is mostly outdoors, and while there are shaded areas, much of the orchard walk is in open rows. If rain is expected, a light rain jacket or umbrella is a good idea; tours run rain or shine unless severe weather is forecast. Strollers and wagons are welcome on the orchard paths, which are mowed grass and packed earth. Service animals are permitted; pets are not allowed in the orchard or picnic area for food safety reasons.
For families with young children, please keep in mind that kids aged 3 and under are free to accompany a paying adult, but they must be supervised at all times, especially around the cider press and farm equipment. The picnic area has tables and benches, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks or purchase cider, apples, and other farm products from the store. There are portable restrooms available on site, including a hand-washing station.
About Crosscut Farm & Orchard
Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a family-owned operation that has been growing apples and other tree fruit for over three decades. Our orchard sits on a south-facing slope that gives the fruit excellent sun exposure and cool nighttime temperatures, which helps develop the crisp texture and balanced sweetness our customers have come to expect. We grow a mix of heirloom and modern varieties, including Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, and a few old favorites like Northern Spy and Gravenstein. In addition to apples, we maintain a small pear block and a few rows of Asian pears, which ripen later in the fall.

We practice integrated pest management (IPM), which means we use the least invasive methods first—monitoring insect populations, encouraging beneficial predators, and using targeted treatments only when necessary. This approach allows us to keep our trees healthy while minimizing our environmental footprint. We also press our own cider on site each fall, using a blend of varieties that changes as the season progresses. The cider is unpasteurized and sold fresh, so we always recommend keeping it refrigerated and enjoying it within a week or two.
Our farm tours are a way for us to share what we love about orchard life with the community. Whether you're a longtime customer or visiting for the first time, we hope you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for where your food comes from and the work that goes into every apple.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I buy tickets at the door? No, all tour tickets must be purchased online in advance. The number of spots per tour is limited to keep the experience personal and safe. If a time slot shows "Out of stock," it is sold out, and we cannot add additional guests.
- What if I'm running late? We ask that you be parked and checked in 10 minutes before your reservation time. If you arrive after the tour has started, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to join the group, and no refunds or transfers are available.
- Is the tour wheelchair accessible? The farm store, check-in area, and picnic area are accessible. The orchard walk is on mowed grass and packed earth, which may be uneven in places. We are happy to discuss your needs in advance; please contact us before booking if you have specific accessibility questions.
- Can I bring a group or book a private tour? For groups of 10 or more, we recommend contacting us directly to discuss availability. Private tours can sometimes be arranged on weekdays, depending on farm operations.
- What happens if it rains? Tours run rain or shine. In the event of severe weather (thunderstorms, high winds, or extreme heat), we will contact you by email to reschedule or refund your ticket. Please check your email before heading to the farm if the forecast looks questionable.

If you can't make this tour or you'd like to plan another visit, we offer several other fall farm experiences throughout September and October. Each tour follows a similar format but may feature different apple varieties, cider pressing demonstrations, or seasonal activities. You can find available dates and times on our online store, including the 1 pm - 3 pm tour on the same day or the 3 pm - 5 pm afternoon session. For a slightly different experience, consider the September 21 morning tour, which often includes a peek at our pear block.
In October, we add U-pick and demo sessions that focus more heavily on apple picking and cider making. The October 1st 1 PM - 3 PM U-pick and Demo and the 3 PM - 5 PM session are popular choices for families who want to fill a bag and learn about pressing at the same time. Whichever event you choose, we recommend booking early, as fall weekends fill up quickly.

Thank you for considering a visit to Crosscut Farm & Orchard. We look forward to sharing the harvest season with you.
