What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour

Your two-hour visit is designed to be both relaxing and informative, with a pace that suits families, couples, and solo explorers alike. From the moment you check in at the designated area, you’ll be welcomed into the rhythm of a working orchard in early autumn. The tour begins with a short introduction to apple farming, where you’ll learn how our trees are nurtured through the seasons, from spring blossoms to the harvest you see around you. Then, gather around the press for a live apple cider pressing demonstration—watch as fresh apples are transformed into the sweet, golden cider that defines fall at Crosscut Farm & Orchard.

After the demonstration, you’re free to enjoy the picnic site at your leisure. Spread a blanket, unpack a snack, or simply soak in the views of the orchard rows and surrounding hills. The tour fee includes parking and access to the picnic area, so there’s no rush to leave when the formal program ends. Many guests choose to stay until closing time, letting the crisp air and the scent of ripe apples round out the afternoon.

Planning Your Visit

Because this is a timed reservation, a little preparation goes a long way. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your 3 pm start time to allow for parking and check-in. The farm is easy to find, but weekend traffic can be unpredictable, so give yourself a buffer. Once you’re parked, head to the check-in point with your order confirmation ready—either printed or on your phone. The order number from your Ecwid email is all you need; no paper tickets will be mailed.

  • Check-in: Must be parked and checked in 10 minutes prior to your reservation time.
  • Proof of purchase: Have your order confirmation email or order number accessible.
  • Weather: The tour runs rain or shine, so dress for the conditions. Layers and sturdy shoes are recommended.
  • Accessibility: The tour route includes grassy and uneven terrain; please contact us in advance if you have mobility concerns.

Children aged 3 and under are free when accompanying a paying adult, but they still count toward your group size for planning purposes. If you’re bringing a large group, consider purchasing all tickets in one transaction to ensure everyone is in the same tour group.

Apple Picking and On-Site Purchases

While apple picking is not included in your entry fee, it’s a wonderful add-on to your farm tour. U-pick bags can be purchased on site with cash or credit card—currently $20 for a half peck bag, which holds roughly 5-6 pounds of apples. Our staff will direct you to the designated picking rows, where you can choose from varieties that are ripe and ready. The orchard is maintained with care, and we ask that you pick only from marked trees and handle the fruit gently.

Beyond apples, the farm stand often has fresh cider, honey, and seasonal goods available for purchase. These items vary by week, so if you have your heart set on something specific, ask at check-in. Remember that all sales are final for tour tickets, but on-site purchases are separate and can be made at the point of sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve gathered the most common questions to help you prepare for your visit. If you don’t see your answer here, feel free to ask a staff member on the day of your tour.

  • Can I bring my dog? For the safety of our crops and other guests, pets are not permitted on the tour route or in the picnic area. Service animals are welcome.
  • Is the cider pressing demonstration hands-on? The demonstration is led by our staff, but guests may be invited to help turn the press at certain points. Participation is optional.
  • What if I’m running late? Because tours start promptly, late arrivals may miss part of the program. No refunds or time transfers are available, so please plan accordingly.
  • Are strollers allowed? Yes, but be aware that the terrain is uneven in places. A sturdy stroller with larger wheels will handle the orchard paths best.

More Ways to Experience the Farm

If this time slot doesn’t work for you, or if you’d like to extend your fall fun, we offer several other tour and u-pick options throughout the season. Each event has its own character—some focus more on the cider press, others on the picking experience—so you can choose the one that fits your group best.

For a morning outing, consider the September 16, 10 am – 12 pm Fall Farm Tour, or the early afternoon September 16, 1 pm – 3 pm Fall Farm Tour. If you’re planning ahead, the September 17, 1 pm – 3 pm Fall Farm Tour offers a similar experience the following day. For a different pace, our October 1st U-pick and Demo 1 PM – 3 PM and October 1st U-pick and Demo 3 PM – 5 PM events combine picking with a live demonstration. And don’t miss the September 21, 10 am – 12 pm Fall Farm Tour for a midweek option.

Whichever event you choose, we’re glad to share the harvest season with you. The orchard is at its most beautiful in September, and every visit supports the care of our trees and the preservation of this working farm.
