What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour
Your two-hour visit is designed to be relaxed, informative, and family-friendly. The tour begins at the check-in area near the main parking lot, where you will meet your guide for the day. After a brief welcome and safety overview, the group walks together along easy, mostly level paths through the orchard and production areas. The pace is comfortable for all ages, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop, ask questions, and take photos. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather, as most of the tour takes place outdoors.
The apple cider pressing demonstration is a highlight for many visitors. You will see how fresh apples are washed, ground, and pressed into juice using a traditional rack-and-cloth press. The guide explains each step, from selecting fruit to bottling the finished cider, and there is time to sample the result. The introduction to apple farming covers the seasonal cycle of the orchard, including pruning, pollination, pest management, and harvest timing. You will learn how Crosscut Farm grows its fruit and what makes each apple variety unique.
At the end of the structured portion of the tour, you are welcome to explore the picnic site on your own. Bring a blanket or use one of the picnic tables, and enjoy the view of the orchard and surrounding hills. The picnic area is available until 5 pm on tour days, so you can relax after the walk. Restrooms and hand-washing stations are located near the parking lot, and drinking water is available at the picnic shelter.

Planning Your Visit: Timing, Parking, and Check-In
Your reservation is for a specific two-hour window, and the schedule is designed to keep groups small and the experience personal. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time to allow for parking and check-in. The farm entrance is clearly marked, and parking attendants will direct you to the designated tour parking area. Have your order confirmation ready on your phone or printed out; the order number is all you need to check in. If you are running late, call the farm office as soon as possible, but note that tours depart on time and cannot be held for late arrivals.
Check-in closes 10 minutes before the tour begins. This allows the guide to take a final head count and give the introductory safety briefing before the group sets out. If you miss check-in, you will not be able to join the tour, and no refunds or transfers will be issued. We recommend setting your GPS to Crosscut Farm & Orchard and allowing extra travel time on weekends, when local roads can be busy with farm traffic and cyclists.
Parking is free for tour guests. The lot is a short walk from the check-in tent, and accessible parking spaces are available near the entrance. If you have mobility concerns or are bringing a stroller, please let the check-in staff know, and they will direct you to the easiest route. The tour route is mostly flat but includes some grassy sections and uneven ground; a wheelchair-accessible route is available upon request.
Apple Picking and On-Site Purchases
Apple picking is not included in the tour price, but you can purchase a half-peck bag on site for $20. The bag holds approximately 5–6 pounds of apples, which is enough for a family snack, a pie, or a batch of applesauce. Bags are sold at the farm stand near the check-in area, and you can pay with cash or credit card. The farm stand also sells fresh cider, honey, and seasonal produce, depending on availability. If you plan to pick apples, we recommend bringing your own bag or basket for carrying the fruit, as the half-peck bag is paper and may not be sturdy enough for long walks.

Picking is allowed only in designated rows, which are marked with colored flags. The guide will point out which varieties are ready on the day of your tour. Please pick only what you intend to buy, and handle the fruit gently to avoid bruising. Children are welcome to pick with adult supervision, and step stools are available for reaching higher branches. Remember that the orchard is a working farm; watch for uneven ground, low branches, and occasional farm equipment.
If you would like to extend your visit, consider booking one of our other fall tours. The September 16, 10 am – 12 pm Fall Farm Tour covers the same ground and is ideal for morning visitors. For an afternoon outing, the September 16, 1 pm – 3 pm Fall Farm Tour and September 16, 3 pm – 5 pm Fall Farm Tour are both available. Each tour has the same format and pricing, so you can choose the time that fits your schedule.

About Crosscut Farm & Orchard
Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a family-owned operation that has been growing apples and other tree fruit for over three decades. The orchard sits on rolling hills with well-drained soil and a climate that produces crisp, flavorful apples. In addition to apples, the farm grows a small selection of pears, plums, and berries, and keeps honeybees for pollination. The farm stand is open seasonally, and the orchard hosts educational tours, school groups, and community events throughout the year.
The farm is committed to sustainable growing practices, including integrated pest management, cover cropping, and careful water use. During the tour, you will see examples of these practices in action, from the wildflower strips that attract beneficial insects to the drip irrigation lines that deliver water directly to the tree roots. The guides are happy to answer questions about the farm's history, growing methods, and plans for the future.

By purchasing a tour ticket, you are supporting local agriculture and helping to keep the orchard open for future generations. We appreciate your interest and look forward to sharing the farm with you. For more seasonal events, check the farm's online store or follow Crosscut Farm & Orchard on social media.
