What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour
Your two-hour visit is designed to be relaxed, informative, and family-friendly. You’ll begin by checking in at the farm stand, where a staff member will welcome your group and direct you to the tour meeting area. From there, the experience unfolds at a comfortable pace, with plenty of time for questions and a little wandering. The tour route is mostly on mowed grass and packed gravel paths, so closed-toe shoes are recommended, especially if the weather has been damp.
One of the highlights is the apple cider pressing demonstration. You’ll see how our vintage press transforms freshly washed apples into sweet, unfiltered cider. Depending on the harvest, we may use a blend of varieties to show how different apples contribute sweetness, tartness, and aroma. The demonstration typically lasts about twenty minutes, and you’ll have a chance to taste the result if the pressing lines up with your tour time.
The short introduction to Apple Farming covers the basics of how we grow fruit in the Pacific Northwest. We’ll talk about rootstocks, pruning, pollination, and the seasonal rhythm of the orchard. You’ll learn why some apples are ready in September while others wait until October, and how our cool nights help develop color and flavor. This part of the tour is conversational—no lectures—so feel free to ask about anything from pest management to home orchard tips.

After the guided portion, you’re welcome to use the picnic site for a snack or simply enjoy the view. The picnic area has a few tables, but you may want to bring a blanket if your group is large. Restrooms are available near the parking area. The tour ends back at the farm stand, where you can purchase apples, cider, and other farm products before heading home.
Planning Your Visit: Timing, Parking, and Check-In
Your reservation is for the 1 pm to 3 pm time slot on September 21. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time. The farm is located off a rural road, and weekend traffic can be unpredictable, especially during harvest season. Parking is free and is located in a gravel lot adjacent to the farm stand. A staff member or sign will direct you to the check-in table.
Check-in closes 10 minutes before the tour begins. If you arrive after that, you may miss the opening orientation and the group may have already moved into the orchard. Because tours run on a tight schedule with multiple groups per day, late arrivals cannot be accommodated. Your order number—found in your Ecwid confirmation email—is all you need to check in. You can show it on your phone or print it out.
If you’re bringing young children, please keep them with you at all times. The farm has equipment, uneven ground, and occasional vehicle traffic. Strollers are allowed but may be difficult on some grassy sections. Leashed dogs are permitted on the farm grounds but are not allowed in the cider pressing area or near food preparation spaces. Please clean up after your pet.

Weather in late September can range from warm sun to cool drizzle. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing a light rain jacket just in case. Tours run rain or shine, unless conditions are unsafe. In the event of severe weather, we will contact you by email using the address on your order.
Apple Picking and Farm Stand Purchases
Your tour admission does not include apple picking, but you are welcome to purchase a U-pick bag on site. A half peck bag—about 5 to 6 pounds of apples—is $20 and can be paid with cash or credit card at the farm stand. U-pick availability depends on the ripening schedule, and not all varieties may be open for picking on any given day. Our staff will tell you which rows are ready and how to pick without damaging the trees.
If you prefer not to pick your own, the farm stand carries pre-picked apples, fresh cider, honey, and seasonal produce. Prices vary by item and are posted at the stand. The stand also sells cold drinks and a small selection of snacks. You can make purchases before or after your tour; the stand is open during all tour hours.
For families who want a more hands-on experience, consider one of our dedicated U-pick sessions. We offer October 1st U-pick and Demo 1 PM -3PM and October 1st U-pick and Demo 3 PM -5PM, which combine picking time with a shorter demonstration. These sessions fill quickly, so early booking is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I bring my own bags or containers for apple picking? We provide the half peck bags for U-pick. For food safety and accurate pricing, outside containers are not permitted in the orchard.
- Is the tour wheelchair accessible? The farm stand, picnic area, and cider pressing area are accessible. The orchard tour route is on grass and packed gravel, which may be challenging for some wheelchairs, especially after rain. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility needs, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
- Are there any age restrictions? The tour is suitable for all ages. Children 3 and under are free with a paying adult. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- Can I take photos during the tour? Yes, photography for personal use is welcome. We love seeing your pictures! Tag us on social media if you share them. Commercial photography requires prior permission.
- What if I can’t make my reserved time? All sales are final. No refunds or time/date transfers are allowed. If you cannot attend, you may give your reservation to a friend—just have them show your order confirmation at check-in.
- Is there a waiting list for sold-out tours? We do not keep a waiting list. If a tour is sold out, please check other available dates and times. We often add sessions as the season progresses.
More Ways to Experience the Farm This Fall
If the September 21 afternoon tour doesn’t fit your schedule, we have several other options throughout the season. Each tour follows a similar format, but the orchard changes week to week as different apple varieties ripen. You might see Golden Delicious one week and Honeycrisp the next. The cider pressing demonstration is the same at every tour, but the apple blend may vary.
For morning visitors, September 21, 10 am - 12 pm Fall Farm Tour is a great choice. The light is beautiful for photos, and the farm is often quieter in the morning. If you prefer a later start, September 16, 1 pm - 3 pm Fall Farm Tour and September 16, 3 pm - 5 pm Fall Farm Tour offer similar afternoon experiences. And for early risers, September 16, 10 am - 12 pm Fall Farm Tour is another morning option.
Whichever tour you choose, we recommend booking early. Fall weekends are our busiest time, and tours often sell out a week or more in advance. Your reservation guarantees your spot and helps us plan for the right number of guests. We look forward to sharing the farm with you!
A Note on Farm Safety and Etiquette
Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a working farm, not a park. Please stay with your tour group and follow the guide’s instructions. Do not enter fenced areas, climb on equipment, or pick fruit unless you are in a designated U-pick row with a purchased bag. The orchard is home to bees and other pollinators; they are generally docile but may sting if disturbed. If you have a known allergy, please bring any necessary medication.
Children must be supervised at all times. The farm pond, while picturesque, is off-limits to visitors. Fences and signs mark restricted areas—please respect them. Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the property. Alcohol is not allowed except during special events where it is explicitly offered.
We ask that you leave no trace: pack out any trash or use the bins provided near the farm stand. Picnicking is allowed only in the designated picnic area. Please do not bring outside food into the cider pressing area. Thank you for helping us keep the farm safe and beautiful for everyone.
