What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour
The Fall Farm Tour at Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a two-hour immersive experience designed to connect you with the rhythms of the orchard in autumn. From the moment you park and check in, you’ll be welcomed into a working farm that has been cultivating apples and community for generations. The tour is structured to be both educational and relaxing, giving you plenty of time to ask questions, take photos, and simply enjoy the crisp fall air.
Your visit begins with a short introduction to apple farming. You’ll learn about the history of the orchard, the varieties we grow, and the seasonal work that goes into bringing fruit from blossom to harvest. Our guides are experienced farmers who love to share their knowledge—whether you’re a home gardener looking for tips or just curious about where your food comes from, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the craft.
One of the highlights is the apple cider pressing demonstration. Watch as fresh apples are transformed into sweet, unfiltered cider right before your eyes. The process is simple but fascinating, and you’ll get to see (and smell!) the fruit at its peak. While tasting is not included in the demonstration, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase cider and other farm products at the on-site stand if you wish.

Planning Your Visit: Timing, Parking, and Check-In
To make the most of your two-hour tour, we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your reservation time. The farm is located off a quiet country road, and while parking is free and ample, you’ll want a few extra minutes to find your bearings and get checked in. Check-in is simple: just provide the order number from your email confirmation to our staff at the welcome table near the main barn.
Please note that all guests must be parked and checked in at least 10 minutes prior to the tour start time. This allows us to begin promptly and ensures that everyone gets the full experience. Late arrivals may not be able to join the group once the tour has moved into the orchard, so plan your drive accordingly.
For families, the farm is stroller-friendly on the main paths, but some areas of the orchard have uneven ground. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended. The tour proceeds rain or shine, so dress for the weather—layers are your friend in late September.
Apple Picking: How It Works On-Site
While apple picking is not included in your tour admission, it’s a wonderful add-on that many guests choose to enjoy. After the tour concludes, you’re welcome to purchase a half peck bag for $20 (cash or credit card accepted) and head into the designated U-pick rows. Our staff will point you toward the varieties that are ripe and ready on the day of your visit.

If you’re planning to pick, consider bringing your own reusable bag or basket to carry your apples—though we do provide bags with purchase. The U-pick area is a short walk from the main barn, and we’ll give you a quick orientation on how to pick without damaging the trees. Kids especially love this part, and it’s a great way to extend your farm visit.
Keep in mind that apple availability varies throughout the season. September 21 is typically prime time for varieties like Honeycrisp, Gala, and early Fuji, but Mother Nature has the final say. Our team will update you at check-in with a list of what’s ready to pick that day.
Picnic Site and Farm Amenities
Your tour admission includes access to our picnic site, a shaded area with tables and a view of the orchard. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a packed lunch or snack after your tour. Many guests bring a blanket and spread out on the grass—just be mindful of any fallen fruit and please pack out all trash to keep the farm beautiful.
Restroom facilities are available near the main barn, including a portable toilet and a handwashing station. We also have a small farm stand where you can purchase fresh cider, apples, honey, and seasonal baked goods (availability varies).

If you have any mobility concerns or special needs, please let our staff know at check-in. We’ll do our best to accommodate you, whether that means a closer parking spot or a modified route for the walking portions of the tour.
