What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour

Your two-hour visit is designed to be a relaxed, family-friendly introduction to life on a working orchard. The tour begins promptly at 10 am, so please plan to arrive early enough to park and check in at least ten minutes before your reservation time. Once everyone is gathered, our farm educator will lead the group through a short introduction to apple farming, covering the seasonal rhythm of the orchard, how we care for our trees, and what makes Crosscut Farm & Orchard unique in this region.

After the introduction, you will move to the cider pressing area for a live demonstration. Watch as freshly picked apples are washed, ground, and pressed into sweet, unfiltered cider. You will learn about the history of cider making, the difference between sweet and hard cider, and how the same basic process has been used for centuries. The demonstration is interactive—questions are encouraged, and you may even get a chance to help turn the press.

Following the cider demonstration, you are welcome to explore the designated picnic site, enjoy the views, or simply relax under the trees. The tour concludes at noon, but you are not required to leave immediately; the picnic area remains available for a short while after the formal program ends. Please note that apple picking is not included with your entry fee, but you may purchase a half peck bag on site for $20 using cash or credit card.

Planning Your Visit: Parking, Check-In, and What to Bring

Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a working farm, so parking is on grass or gravel areas near the main entrance. Follow the signs for Fall Farm Tour parking and be prepared for a short walk to the check-in table. You must be parked and checked in at least ten minutes before your reservation time. Check-in is simple: show your Ecwid order confirmation—either printed or on your phone—and our staff will mark your group as present. No paper tickets are sent, so please double-check that the email address you provide at checkout is accurate.

We recommend dressing for the weather and wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes. The ground can be uneven in places, and mornings in late September may be cool. A light jacket or sweater is a good idea. Sunscreen and hats are also wise if the forecast calls for sun. The tour is entirely outdoors, so please plan accordingly. Water bottles are welcome, and you may bring your own snacks to enjoy at the picnic site, but please carry out all trash to help keep the farm clean.

Restroom facilities are limited—portable toilets are available near the parking area. There is no on-site café or food vendor, so if you think you will be hungry, bring a small picnic. The picnic site has a few tables, but seating is not guaranteed; a blanket on the grass is a lovely alternative. Strollers are permitted, but the terrain may be bumpy, so a baby carrier might be easier for very young children.

Who Should Attend: Age Guidelines and Accessibility

This tour is designed for ages four and up, but children three and under are free to accompany a paying adult. The content is engaging for school-age kids and adults alike, with plenty of hands-on moments during the cider pressing demonstration. If you have a toddler, please keep them close—the orchard has active equipment and uneven ground. The tour is not specifically geared toward very young children, but they are welcome as long as they are supervised at all times.

Accessibility is limited. The tour involves walking over grass, gravel, and possibly muddy patches, with no paved paths. Wheelchairs and walkers may find the terrain challenging. There are no benches along the tour route, though the picnic area has some seating. If you have mobility concerns, please consider whether this tour is a good fit. We are unable to provide golf carts or other transportation during the tour.

Service animals are welcome, but pets are not allowed on the farm tour. Please leave your dogs at home, as the orchard is home to wildlife and farm animals that can be stressed by unfamiliar pets. Emotional support animals are not considered service animals under Washington State law and are not permitted.

U-Pick Options and How to Add Apples to Your Visit

While the Fall Farm Tour does not include apple picking, you can easily add a U-pick experience to your day. On the day of your tour, ask our staff about current picking conditions. A half peck bag costs $20 and can be purchased on site with cash or credit card. The bag holds roughly five to six pounds of apples, depending on variety and size. Availability of specific apple varieties changes throughout the season, so we cannot guarantee which types will be ready on September 22.

If you prefer to plan ahead, consider booking one of our dedicated U-pick and demo sessions. For example, the October 1st U-pick and Demo 1 PM -3PM or the October 1st U-pick and Demo 3 PM -5PM combine a guided orchard tour with a reserved picking time. These sessions fill quickly, so book early if your schedule allows.

For those who simply want to enjoy the farm without picking, the Fall Farm Tour is perfect. You will still see the orchard up close, learn about apple growing, and taste fresh cider. If you decide you want apples after the tour, you can purchase a pre-picked bag at the check-in area, subject to availability. Pre-picked bags are not always available, so the U-pick option is the most reliable way to take home fruit.

More Ways to Experience Crosscut Farm & Orchard This Fall

If September 22 doesn't work for you, we offer several other Fall Farm Tour dates. The September 21, 10 am - 12 pm Fall Farm Tour is the day before, and we also have three sessions on September 16: September 16, 10 am - 12 pm, September 16, 1 pm - 3 pm, and September 16, 3 pm - 5 pm. Each tour follows the same format and includes the cider pressing demonstration, apple farming introduction, parking, and picnic site access.

For a more hands-on experience, the October 1st U-pick and Demo sessions are an excellent choice. You will get the same educational content plus a guaranteed picking bag and time in the orchard. Whichever date you choose, we look forward to sharing our farm with you. Crosscut Farm & Orchard is a family-owned operation, and every tour helps support our work of growing healthy fruit and preserving agricultural heritage in this valley. Thank you for considering a visit—we can't wait to meet you under the apple trees.
