What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour

Your two-hour visit is designed to be a relaxed, informative introduction to life on a working apple farm in late September. You will be part of a small group, guided by a member of our farm team who knows the orchard block by block. The tour begins at the check-in point near the farm store, where your order number will be confirmed and you will receive a brief safety and schedule overview. From there, the group moves together through a series of short, hands-on stations, each lasting about 15 to 20 minutes, with time built in for questions and photographs.

The first stop is the apple cider pressing demonstration. You will see how fresh, whole apples are washed, ground, and pressed into raw cider using a traditional rack-and-cloth press. Depending on the harvest, you may be invited to help turn the crank or place the cloths, and you will learn why certain apple varieties are blended for the best flavor. The demonstration is outdoors under a covered pavilion, so it runs rain or shine. After the pressing, the group walks a short distance into the orchard for the introduction to apple farming. Here we cover the basics of how apples are grown in our climate: rootstocks, pruning, thinning, pollination, and pest management. You will be able to see the difference between young trees and mature producing trees, and we will point out the varieties that are ripening that week.

Because this is a working farm, the route is on mowed grass and packed gravel paths. We recommend closed-toe shoes, a hat, and a water bottle. Strollers are welcome, but the orchard rows can be uneven after rain. The tour ends back at the picnic area, where you are free to stay and enjoy your packed lunch or purchase apples, cider, and other farm products from the farm store. The picnic site has shaded tables, a portable restroom, and a hand-washing station.

How U-Pick Works During Your Visit

Apple picking is not included in your tour admission, but it is available for purchase on site with cash or credit card. A half peck bag is $20, and it holds roughly 5 to 6 pounds of apples, depending on variety. You may purchase as many bags as you like, subject to fruit availability. U-pick is open to tour guests immediately after the guided portion ends, and you may pick until the farm closes for the day. The orchard blocks designated for u-pick are clearly marked with variety signs and colored flags, and our staff will show you which rows are open before you head out.

We ask that you pick only from the rows that are marked open. This helps us manage the harvest and ensures that fruit left on the trees has time to ripen properly. Please handle the apples gently: cup the fruit in your hand, lift and twist, and place it in your bag rather than dropping it. Do not climb the trees or shake the branches. Children are welcome to pick with adult supervision, and we have a few short step stools available near the check-in table for reaching higher fruit. If you have mobility concerns, let us know at check-in and we will point you to the most accessible rows.

After picking, bring your bags to the farm store to pay if you have not already purchased a bag. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, and contactless payment. There is no charge to walk through the orchard if you only want to take photos, but all fruit removed from the trees must be paid for. Please remember that outside bags and containers are not permitted in the u-pick area; we provide the half peck bags for a consistent measure.

Planning Your Arrival and Check-In

Your reservation is for the specific time slot listed on this page: September 23, from 1 pm to 3 pm. You must be parked and checked in at least 10 minutes before your reservation start time. Late arrivals may not be able to join the group, and no refunds or time transfers are allowed. The farm gate opens 30 minutes before the first tour of the day, so you will have plenty of time to find parking, use the restroom, and gather your group. Parking is free and located in the gravel lot directly across from the farm store. Follow the signs for “Tour Parking” and do not park in the orchard or on the grass.

At check-in, you will need to show your order confirmation email, either printed or on your phone. The order number is all we need; no paper tickets are sent. If you purchased multiple admissions under one order, your whole group should check in together. Each paying adult and child age 4 and up must have a ticket. Children 3 and under are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult. We do not issue physical wristbands; your group will be counted and marked on the guide’s roster.

Please double-check the email address you used at checkout. Your order confirmation from Ecwid is sent automatically, and it is the only record of your purchase. If you do not see it within a few minutes of ordering, check your spam or promotions folder. If you still cannot find it, contact us through the farm’s main website before the day of your tour. On the day of the event, our check-in volunteers cannot look up orders without the order number, so please have it ready.

What to Bring and What to Leave at Home

We want you to be comfortable and prepared, so here is a quick list of what we recommend for a September afternoon on the farm. The weather in late September can be warm in the sun and cool in the shade, so dress in layers. Closed-toe shoes are strongly encouraged because the orchard floor can be uneven and there may be fallen apples. A hat and sunscreen are smart even on cloudy days, and a refillable water bottle will save you from buying bottled water. If you plan to pick apples, bring a small backpack or tote to carry your half peck bag, but remember that only our bags may be used in the orchard.

  • Recommended: closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, light jacket, phone or camera, printed or digital order confirmation, cash or card for u-pick and farm store purchases.
  • Not permitted: outside bags or containers in the u-pick area, pets (service animals only), smoking or vaping anywhere on the farm, drones, and outside alcohol.
  • Optional but nice: picnic blanket, small cooler for cider and apples, binoculars for birdwatching, and a notebook if you want to jot down apple variety notes.

We are a working farm, not a park, so please stay with your group and follow the guide’s instructions. The orchard has active equipment, uneven ground, and occasional wildlife. For everyone’s safety, do not enter any building or fenced area that is not part of the tour. Children must be supervised at all times, especially around the cider press and the farm store. If you need to leave the tour early, please let the guide know so we can account for everyone.

Accessibility and Group Notes

The tour route is approximately half a mile in total, with frequent stops. The ground is mostly mowed grass and packed gravel, with one short incline near the orchard entrance. The cider pressing demonstration takes place under a covered pavilion with bench seating for about 20 people. The orchard introduction is standing-only for about 15 minutes, but we can provide a folding chair if you ask at check-in. The picnic area is flat and shaded, with accessible picnic tables. The portable restroom is ADA-compliant and located near the parking lot.

If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, walker, or stroller, the tour can be adapted. Please let us know at check-in, and the guide will adjust the route to avoid the steepest section. The u-pick rows are wide enough for most mobility devices, but the ground can be soft after rain. We do not have motorized carts or shuttle service. Service animals are welcome; pets are not allowed due to food safety regulations and the presence of farm equipment.

For groups of 10 or more, we recommend purchasing tickets in a single order so your whole party is checked in together. If you are coming with a school group, scout troop, or community organization, please note that the tour content is designed for ages 4 and up, but younger children are welcome to observe. The tour is not a drop-off program; all children must be accompanied by a paying adult. If you have specific questions about accessibility or group logistics, use the contact form on the farm’s main website before purchasing.

After Your Tour: More Ways to Enjoy the Farm

Your Fall Farm Tour admission is for the September 23 afternoon slot only, but the farm hosts several other tour times and u-pick events throughout the season. If you enjoyed this experience, you might want to book one of the other available dates. For example, there are tours on September 16, 10 am - 12 pm, September 16, 1 pm - 3 pm, and September 16, 3 pm - 5 pm. Each tour follows the same format, so if your preferred time is sold out here, check those pages for availability.

Later in the season, we offer u-pick and demonstration events that include apple picking with your admission. The October 1st U-pick and Demo 1 PM - 3 PM and October 1st U-pick and Demo 3 PM - 5 PM sessions are popular for families who want a more hands-on harvest experience. These events fill quickly, so we recommend booking early. All events are held rain or shine, and the same no-refund policy applies.

If you cannot make it to a scheduled tour, the farm store is open during regular hours for apple sales, fresh cider, and seasonal produce. You can also follow the farm on social media for harvest updates, variety availability, and last-minute openings. We appreciate your support of our small family farm, and we hope your visit leaves you with a deeper understanding of where your food comes from.
