What to Expect on Your Fall Farm Tour
Your two-hour visit is designed to give you a genuine taste of autumn at Crosscut Farm & Orchard. The afternoon begins with a warm welcome and a brief orientation before we move into the heart of the farm. You’ll witness the traditional apple cider pressing demonstration, where whole apples are transformed into fresh, sweet cider right before your eyes. It’s a sensory experience—the crunch of the press, the rich aroma of ripe fruit, and the first taste of the season’s harvest.
Following the pressing, one of our orchardists will share a short introduction to apple farming. You’ll learn about the varieties we grow, how the trees are nurtured through the seasons, and what makes our mountain-grown fruit so distinctive. The talk is informal and interactive, so feel free to ask questions—whether you’re a backyard gardener or simply curious about where your food comes from.
After the educational portion, you’ll have time to explore the picnic area at your leisure. Bring a blanket or use one of our tables, and enjoy the pastoral views. The tour concludes at 3 pm, but you’re welcome to linger in the picnic area until closing. It’s a perfect way to spend a fall afternoon with family or friends.

U-Pick Reservations and Apple Picking Details
While apple picking is not included in your tour admission, it’s a wonderful add-on that many guests choose. U-pick bags can be purchased on site for $20 per half peck, payable with cash or credit card. A half peck bag holds approximately 5–6 pounds of apples, enough for a couple of pies or a week of healthy snacking.
We recommend reserving your u-pick time in advance if you plan to pick during peak hours, especially on weekends. The orchard rows are a short walk from the tour meeting point, and our staff will direct you to the best sections for the varieties that are ripe on September 24. Popular late-September varieties often include Honeycrisp, Gala, and early Fuji, though availability varies with the season.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the age range for the tour? The tour is suitable for ages 4 and up. Children 3 and under are free to accompany a paying adult, but please keep in mind that the tour involves walking on uneven ground and standing during the demonstrations.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible? The main demonstration area and picnic site are accessible, but the orchard rows themselves are grassy and may be challenging for some wheelchairs. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility needs, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Can I bring my dog? For the safety and comfort of all guests, we ask that you leave pets at home. Service animals are always welcome.
What should I wear? Dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. The farm can be muddy after rain, so boots are a good idea. Layers are recommended, as the temperature can change quickly in the afternoon.
Is there food available for purchase? We do not sell food on site, but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic. The picnic area has tables and trash receptacles. Please carry out everything you bring in to help keep the farm beautiful.
